In response to customer requests, I have scheduled a few trips just to the Argosy casino. Each of these day trips will include five hours of gaming at the Argosy and a free lunch buffet. This three day trip begins with a relaxing Lunch & lock cruise in Marietta. We will enjoy a grand buffet aboard the climate controlled Valley Gem Paddle wheeler as we cruise through a lock and enjoy some beautiful fall foliage. After the cruise, we will travel to Elkins West Virginia and check into our hotel for a two night stay. We will end the first day with dinner at the Grace Mansion and an Appalachian music performance. The second day begins with breakfast and a short entertainment show before we embark on one of the most unique rail excursions in the world: the Cheat Mountain Salamander. You will travel down the Shavers Fork River valley from Cheat Bridge, passing thru the Monongahela National Forest and numerous rock walls, including the imposing "Coal Rock". The train travels around the two sharpest mainline railroad curves still in active use in the United States. The excursion also stops at the beautiful "High Falls of Cheat," elevation 3,000 feet, and takes you through West Virginia's wildest mountain wilderness. Wildlife is frequently seen during the course of the excursions including: black bear, turkey, bald eagles and whitetail deer. In historic Durbin, we will take the time to experience another train ride on the steam powered DURBIN ROCKET. It is powered by Old No. 3, one of only three operating Climax-geared logging locomotives on earth. This 55-ton antique was built in 1910 for the Moore-Keppel Lumber Co. in nearby Randolph County. Ride in the authentic 1920's Caboose behind #3 along the free-flowing Greenbrier River valley. The train stops at the remote Piney Island for a brief layover before returning to Durbin. Your ride offers beautiful river and mountain views in the Monongahela National Forest. After a day on the trains, we will end the evening with dinner and a show at the American Mountain Theater.
